Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to initiate reforms in the country’s cricket setup following disappointing performances in the recent ODI and T20 World Cups.
During the upgradation ceremony for the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, PM Shehbaz stressed the need to revive Pakistan’s cricket glory. He urged the PCB to focus on merit-based selections and improving the domestic cricket system.
“The cricket team should be selected on merit, and the domestic system needs to be improved,” he stated.
Recently, in a strategic move, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has delegated cricketing decisions to former captain Waqar Younis.

While Naqvi will handle administrative affairs, Waqar will oversee international and domestic selection committees, players’ No Objection Certificates (NOCs), and other key cricket matters.
Naqvi is currently focused on upgrading stadiums for the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan will host.
PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction with the ongoing infrastructure improvements, particularly at the Gaddafi Stadium. “There is a real need to modernize cricket stadiums,” he added.
