Freeform, formerly ABC Family, has ordered a new series, with two “Pretty Little Liars” stars reprising their roles.
Janel Parrish and Sasha Pieterse are taking us to the deceptively idyllic town of Beacon Heights in a spin-off to 2010’s seven-season teen drama series “Pretty Little Liars.”
They will reprise their roles as Mona Vanderwaal and Alison DiLaurentis for new show “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists,” likewise based on the novels by Sara Shepherd.
That sets up a fundamental level of tension for the new drama, given that Mona and Alison were hardly the best of friends during their teenage years.
Joining them are a cast of new characters who, as in the original show, become caught up in a criminal conspiracy.
Those already named to the cast include Sofia Carson (the “Descendants” franchise), Hayley Erin (“General Hospital”), Sydney Park (“The Walking Dead”), Chris Mason (“Vampire Academy”), and Kelly Rutherford (“Gossip Girl”).
I. Marlene King, who developed and produced “Pretty Little Liars” in the first place, also continues her involvement.
Filming will begin in September ahead of a ten-episode season to debut in 2019.
