Tensions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the franchise owners of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) have reached a boiling point. Franchise owners are now calling for an independent board to manage the league’s affairs.
Nadeem Omar, chairman of the PSL franchise Quetta Gladiators, has been particularly vocal about this need. He argues that the PSL faces unique challenges that differ from those of the PCB.

Call for a Separate PSL Board
Omar emphasizes that a separate board with its own chairman and administration would streamline operations. He explained that the current setup requires franchise owners to go through Salman Naseer due to the busy schedule of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. This, he believes, hinders effective problem-solving.
“If we have a separate chairman for the PSL, we can discuss issues directly and resolve them more quickly,” Omar stated.
New Dates for PSL 2025
The PCB has confirmed the tentative dates for PSL 2025, running from April 10 to May 25. Traditionally held in February-March, the tournament has been rescheduled due to its collision with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

However, this new window means PSL 10 will clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL), which runs from late March to late May.
The overlap with the IPL has raised concerns about foreign players prioritizing the IPL over the PSL. Omar mentioned that franchise owners had previously suggested to the PCB that the PSL could proceed without foreign players if necessary.
Omar also expressed concerns about the risks of holding the league in April, stating that no other window was available. “We had to take this risk because there was no available window after April,” he said.
The call for an independent PSL board highlights the growing frustrations among franchise owners. As the league continues to evolve, addressing these issues will be crucial for maintaining its success and reputation. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
