Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) is to introduce a new system to eradicate the need of internet for mobile phone registration.
PTA has officially decided to introduce the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) to make the process of the registration easier and faster.
This new system will allow individuals to register their mobile phones via SMS. In order to do so, the official body is collaborating with telecom operators.
PTA also introduced the Device Identification Registration Blocking System (DIRBS), which is up and running from 15th of February. This system allows individuals to register their phones online in collaboration with Customs.
Passengers who are bringing back handsets have an option to pay the duty and taxes at the airport (travel documents, passport and travel history required) or visit the customs office later on.
While individuals are allowed to carry 5 mobile phones at a time, only one will be free of cost.
PTA Announces New Date for Illegal Phone
PTA has announced 1st April as the last day for individuals to get their device registered. Those who will not do so will not be able to use their handset as it will be blocked and blacklisted.
