PTA claimed a 28% growth in mobile internet speed over the past year, denying any slowdown or decline. The authority stated that mobile internet speed increased from 15.65 Mbps to 20.02 Mbps, with mobile traffic rising by 24.2%. By September 2024, broadband subscriptions reached 142.3 million, and telecom users totalled 196 million. PTA highlighted significant growth in the telecom sector, which generated Rs955 billion in revenue and produced 29.6 million mobile devices in the last fiscal year.

Despite this, Pakistan ranks 198th globally in internet speed, according to the World Population Review. The report shows the country lags behind Palestine, Bhutan, Ghana, and Iran. Pakistan’s average mobile internet speed stands at 19.59 Mbps, while broadband averages 15.52 Mbps. UAE leads global rankings for both mobile and broadband internet, followed by Singapore and Qatar. PTA remains optimistic about improvements with advancements in technology.
