Every year, Sindh government announces public holiday on 14th Safar to honor the Urs of the Sufi saint, Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
All offices, autonomous, semi-autonomous bodies, corporate and local councils under the administrative control of the government of Sindh, except essential services observe the public holiday.
Schools and all educational institutes are also closed down on the occasion.
Public Holiday on October 24 by Sindh Government?
This year, 14th Safar will fall on Wednesday, 24th October 2018. A notification has been rolled out by Sindh Government declaring the day a holiday.
 Various schools in Karachi have already announced this Wednesday to be a holiday.
Educational pages on Facebook have also reported 24th October to be a holiday for educational institutes.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam has ordered the police to make diligent security arrangements for the three-day Urs celebrations of Sufi Saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
Further security measures will also be strengthened for mosques, Imam Bargahs, shrines, religious places of minorities, public places, important public and private buildings, and offices.
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is the most revered Sindhi scholar, mystic, saint, and poet. He is lauded as the greatest Sufi poet of the Sindhi language. His poetic collections have been assembled in the compilation Shah Jo Risalo that have been translated into English, Urdu, and other languages.
