Rain and Snowfall Expected Across the Country from February 19

After an extended dry spell, rain and snowfall are forecasted to hit the upper parts of the country from February 19 to 21. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), an advancing weather system is set to enter northern areas on February 19 and stay until February 21.

Under the influence of this system, Gilgit-Baltistan, including Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza and Gilgit, along with Kashmirโ€™s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, and other areas, will experience rain, thunderstorms and heavy snowfall during this period. Similar weather conditions are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, covering regions such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Peshawar. Murree and Galiyat are also likely to receive snowfall.

In Punjab, Islamabad, Potohar, Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala will get rain and thunderstorms on February 19 and 20. Lighter rain is expected in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and surrounding areas on February 19. Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat and Zhob, will see rain and snowfall from February 18 to 19.

Heavy snowfall may cause road closures and slippery conditions in Murree, Naran, Kaghan, Swat and Skardu. Hailstorms may hit parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Kashmir. Landslides and avalanches remain a risk in hilly areas.

Authorities are advised to stay alert, and tourists should avoid unnecessary travel. The rain will benefit crops, especially in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sindh will remain mostly dry,ย with gusty winds along the coastal belt.
