Ramadan in Saudi Arabia to Begin on March 1, 2025

The holy month of Ramadan in Saudi Arabia is expected to begin on March 1, 2025 (Friday), according to Sheikh Abdullah bin Suleiman al-Manea, a senior Saudi royal court advisor and member of the Saudi Ulema Board. Based on astronomical calculations, Ramadan is likely to last 29 days, concluding on March 29, with Eid ul Fitr expected on March 30.

Sheikh al-Manea emphasised that while astronomical predictions indicate these dates, the Saudi Supreme Court will make the official announcement based on moon sighting reports. Astronomers also note that Ramasan will continue to fall in winter until 2031, after which it will shift to autumn for eight years.

Muslims worldwide observe Ramadan as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer (salah), reflection and community. Fasting is obligatory for all adult Muslims except those who are ill, traveling, elderly, pregnant, breastfeeding, or diabetic.

The pre-dawn meal is called suhur, while the meal to break the fast at sunset is iftar. As the holy month approaches, preparations begin for a time of spiritual devotion, generosity and unity.
