With the ICC Menโs Champions Trophy 2025 just around the corner, the buzz around Pakistanโs chances is growing louder. And guess what? Ravi Shastri, the former Indian cricketer and head coach, has thrown his support behind the defending champions, predicting a semi-final spot for the Green Shirts.
Pakistanโs Recent Form โ A Strong Case for Success
Speaking to Sanjana Ganesan on the ICC Review, Shastri highlighted Pakistanโs impressive white-ball performances, particularly their 3-0 clean sweep against South Africa.
“With the exposure theyโve had in the last six to eight months in white-ball cricket, they have put up some really strong performances, especially in South Africa,” he noted.

Home Advantage โ A Double-Edged Sword?
Playing at home always comes with massive expectations, especially in the subcontinent. But Shastri believes Pakistanโs depth makes them a dangerous team, especially in home conditions.
“Pakistan are still very, very dangerous, and if they qualify, theyโll be doubly more dangerous,” he further added.
Thatโs a warning for every team in the tournament. If Pakistan makes it to the knockouts, watch out!
Saim Ayubโs Absence โ A Concern?
One talking point ahead of the tournament is the absence of young opening batter Saim Ayub. The left-hander has been in incredible form, and his aggressive batting could have been a game-changer.
Shastri acknowledged the setback but remained optimistic: “They’ve missed Ayub at the top, and heโs a crucial player. But Pakistan have enough depth to be dangerous.”
