ravi-shastri-backs-pakistan-for-champions-trophy-2025

With the ICC Menโ€™s Champions Trophy 2025 just around the corner, the buzz around Pakistanโ€™s chances is growing louder. And guess what? Ravi Shastri, the former Indian cricketer and head coach, has thrown his support behind the defending champions, predicting a semi-final spot for the Green Shirts.

Pakistanโ€™s Recent Form โ€“ A Strong Case for Success

Speaking to Sanjana Ganesan on the ICC Review, Shastri highlighted Pakistanโ€™s impressive white-ball performances, particularly their 3-0 clean sweep against South Africa.

“With the exposure theyโ€™ve had in the last six to eight months in white-ball cricket, they have put up some really strong performances, especially in South Africa,” he noted.

Home Advantage โ€“ A Double-Edged Sword?

Playing at home always comes with massive expectations, especially in the subcontinent. But Shastri believes Pakistanโ€™s depth makes them a dangerous team, especially in home conditions.

“Pakistan are still very, very dangerous, and if they qualify, theyโ€™ll be doubly more dangerous,” he further added.

Thatโ€™s a warning for every team in the tournament. If Pakistan makes it to the knockouts, watch out!

Saim Ayubโ€™s Absence โ€“ A Concern?

One talking point ahead of the tournament is the absence of young opening batter Saim Ayub. The left-hander has been in incredible form, and his aggressive batting could have been a game-changer.

Shastri acknowledged the setback but remained optimistic: “They’ve missed Ayub at the top, and heโ€™s a crucial player. But Pakistan have enough depth to be dangerous.”
