India captain Rohit Sharma has voiced his enthusiasm for the prospect of regular Test series against arch-rivals Pakistan.
Sharma, known for his dynamic batting prowess, highlighted the potency of Pakistan’s bowling attack, emphasizing the potential for thrilling contests on neutral grounds.
In a recent interview with the Club Prairie Fire podcast, responding to a query from co-host Michael Vaughan about the impact of a Test series between India and Pakistan on the longest format of the game, Sharma expressed his belief in its immense value.
He praised Pakistan’s formidable bowling lineup and stressed the excitement of facing them in overseas conditions.
โDo you think Test between Pakistan and India could benefit the longest format of the game hugely and it would be fantastic for Test cricket?โ asked Michael Vaughan.
โI totally believe that, they (Pakistan) are a good team. They have got superb bowling line-up. I think I will be a good contest especially if you play in overseas conditions,โ Rohit Sharma responded.
Sharma reminisced about the last Test encounter between India and Pakistan in 2007, underlining his eagerness to renew this historic rivalry on the cricket field.
Despite the prolonged absence of bilateral series due to political tensions, Sharma expressed his desire for pure cricketing contests, unaffected by external factors.
โI think it will be a great contest between the two sides. We anyway play them in the ICC tournaments. So, it doesnโt even matter. I am only interested in pure cricket.
“I am not looking at anything else. A battle between bat and ball. It will be a great contest so why not.โ
While India and Pakistan have not engaged in Test cricket since 2007/08, Sharma’s remarks shed light on the enduring appeal of this rivalry and the potential it holds for the growth of the sport.
As both nations gear up to clash in the highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2024, cricket fans worldwide eagerly await the prospect of witnessing future battles between these cricketing giants in the Test arena.
