Saim Ayub, at just 22, is quickly becoming a fan favourite—not just for his skills on the field, but for the way he carries himself off it. And once again, he’s managed to win everyone over.
During Tuesday’s Champions One-Day Cup Qualifier 1, the Panthers strolled to a seven-wicket win over the Markhors, but the real highlight wasn’t just their performance. It was Saim’s classy gesture after the match that had people talking.

Saim Ayub’s Heartfelt Gesture
So here’s how the match went down: The Markhors, captained by Mohammad Rizwan, won the toss and batted first. But it didn’t take long for things to spiral out of control.
Mohammad Hasnain, the Panthers’ fiery pacer, absolutely ripped through their top order. By the time the Markhors realized what hit them, they were already four wickets down with just 25 runs on the board.
Saim Ayub came in later and cleaned up the tail, taking a brilliant five-wicket haul to bundle the Markhors for just 137 runs.
He later scored 33 runs during the chase of 138 runs, led by Usman Khan’s unbeaten 54. But here’s where it gets interesting.
Saim was named Man of the Match for his stellar bowling, but instead of soaking in the glory, he did something that left everyone in awe—he handed the award to his teammate, Mohammad Hasnain.

“This belongs to Hasnain,” he said in the post-match presentation. “His opening spell won us the game. Without his efforts, I wouldn’t have gotten those wickets.”
The Panthers Are in the Final
Thanks to this win, the Panthers are headed straight to the final of the Champions Cup. The Markhors? Well, they’ve still got one more shot. They’ll be taking on the winner of Wednesday’s Stallions vs Lions clash in Eliminator 2. So, all hope isn’t lost for them just yet.
