The 32-year-old trailblazer, who made history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to conquer Mount Everest, K2, and the Seven Summits, fell severely ill during her recent K2 expedition.
Baig, who was leading the joint Pakistani-Italian female expedition, developed severe breathing issues during the pre-expedition preparations. Despite having all the necessary equipment and team members present, the rescue operations were hindered by unfavourable weather conditions. She waited for three days for a helicopter to arrive, her health rapidly deteriorating.
The young mountaineer was eventually evacuated with human assistance and a horse and later airlifted from Dassu to Skardu via helicopter. She is now admitted to the Combined Military Hospital in Skardu, where her condition remains critical.
Baig’s family, including her brother, has requested prayers for her speedy recovery. The mountaineering community and fans worldwide rally behind her, sending thoughts and prayers for her well-being.
