Jadon Sancho has seemingly aimed at Manchester United after Marcus Rashford’s debut for Aston Villa in their 2-1 FA Cup fourth-round win over Tottenham Hotspur. Rashford, who joined Villa on loan in January, came off the bench for a 24-minute appearance. After the match, he posted on social media, “Thank you for the warm welcome. Great team performance.”
Sancho, currently on loan at Chelsea from Manchester United, replied with a single word: “Freedom.” His response has been widely seen as a criticism of Manchester United, where he and Rashford faced struggles under Erik ten Hag. Sancho’s issues with the club intensified after a public fallout with Ten Hag last year, which led to his exile from the first team before securing his loan move to Chelsea.

Rashford, despite scoring 30 goals in the 2022/23 season, saw a sharp decline in form. Several clubs, including Barcelona, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Napoli, were interested in signing him. However, his high wages and inconsistent performances made negotiations difficult. Aston Villa secured his loan after selling Jhon Durán to Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
Unai Emery praised Rashford’s debut, noting his positive impact on the team. However, he emphasised the need for patience as Rashford adapts to the squad. Meanwhile, Sancho’s comment suggests unresolved frustration with his time at Manchester United. Both players are now focused on rebuilding their careers, but their long-term futures remain uncertain.
