Embracing Therapy for Self-Growth
Sarwat spoke about how she’s been under therapy for the last six years, which is not due to mental imbalances but just because her personal life required it the most. “I am aware of my duties being a wife and a mother, but as a person, I had no time,” she said.
Referring to the stigma surrounding therapy, Sarwat said, “We think therapy is flaky and unimportant, but that is the root cause of many relationship problems.” Through therapy, she realised the significance of self-acceptance. Sarwat recalled an exercise in which her therapist instructed her to look in the mirror, and she confessed to having had a problem doing so because of conditioning. “I was raised with the idea that looking in the mirror too much was vain. My therapist helped me unlearn this mindset and own myself,” she explained.

She compared it to physical health by saying, “If we see a doctor for physical pain, why can’t we seek therapy for mental pain?” She also pointed out the need to recognise emotional struggles and begin the healing process early.
Being a mother of two boys, Sarwat feels an added responsibility to raise emotionally intelligent children. “Whatever my husband and I do, they absorb. We must prepare them to not only win but also to lose gracefully,” she said.
Sarwat has once again proved her commitment to fostering important conversations about mental health and self-prioritisation. Her journey inspires many to embrace therapy and break societal taboos.
