Saudi Arabia has launched the “Nusuk Wallet” on June 2, 2024, to enhance the experience of Umrah and Haj pilgrims. This digital wallet, tailored specifically for pilgrims, marks a significant milestone in the Kingdom’s efforts to integrate advanced technology into religious practices. It provides a seamless and secure financial management system for pilgrims.
Secure and Efficient Financial Management
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the Nusuk Wallet streamlines financial transactions for pilgrims, offering a secure and efficient way to manage expenses during their sacred journey. Developed with the Saudi National Bank (SNB AlAhli), the wallet uses state-of-the-art encryption techniques and emerging technologies to ensure the highest security standards.
The Nusuk Wallet prioritizes security and convenience. Advanced encryption methods protect users’ financial data and transactions, giving pilgrims peace of mind as they focus on their spiritual obligations. This digital wallet is part of a broader strategy by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (MoHU) to enhance the pilgrimage experience through digital transformation, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030.
In May 2024, the Saudi Ministry of Interior launched a digital identity service for pilgrims arriving on Haj visas. This service simplifies identification, reducing the need for physical documents and enhancing the overall efficiency of the pilgrimage. This initiative underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to utilizing technology to improve the pilgrimage experience.
Unified Platform: Nusuk.sa
Complementing these initiatives is the Nusuk.sa platform, introduced in September 2022. Nusuk.sa is a unified government platform designed to streamline arrival procedures for pilgrims worldwide. It is a key component of the Pilgrim Experience Programme, aimed at providing a smooth and hassle-free journey to Makkah and Madinah.
Saudi authorities have reinforced strict regulations for the Haj season, emphasizing compliance with pilgrimage rules. From June 2 to June 20, performing Haj without a permit incurs a fine of 10,000 Saudi Riyal (approximately Dh9,000). This measure ensures an orderly and regulated pilgrimage, maintaining the sanctity and organization of the religious event.
The launch of the Nusuk Wallet and other digital services signifies a significant step in modernizing the Haj and Umrah experiences. These efforts align with the broader goals of Saudi Vision 2030, embracing innovation and technology for the benefit of citizens and visitors.
