Pakistan’s emphatic victory over Ireland in the second T20I encounter was overshadowed by an unfortunate incident involving Pakistani pacer Shaheen Afridi and an Afghan spectator.
Reports emerged of the spectator allegedly misbehaving with Afridi as he made his way from the dressing room to the field.
Initially, Afridi chose to ignore the derogatory remarks from the Afghan fan. However, as the behaviour persisted, Afridi took prompt action by informing the security personnel present at the venue.
Swift measures were taken, and the spectator was promptly removed from the ground, ensuring the safety and dignity of the players.
Despite the off-field distraction, Pakistan exhibited a commanding performance on the field, securing a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Ireland.
During the match, Shaheen Afridi achieved a significant milestone, reaching 300 wickets in international cricket with the dismissal of Irish captain Paul Stirling.
Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), presented Afridi with special jersey to honor his achievement after the match.
Initially, Pakistan faced early setbacks, losing Saim Ayub and skipper Babar Azam cheaply. However, Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman turned the tide with a remarkable partnership.
Rizwan and Fakhar’s monumental 140-run partnership, which surpassed Pakistan’s previous record for the third wicket in T20Is, laid the foundation for Pakistan’s successful chase.
Rizwan’s unbeaten 75 off 46 balls, complemented by Fakhar’s blistering 78 off 40 deliveries, propelled Pakistan towards victory.
Additionally, Azam Khan’s aggressive cameo of 30* off 10 balls further consolidated Pakistan’s position, ensuring a comfortable chase for the Men in Green.
