Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has stepped in to support all-rounder Shadab Khan after his disappointing performance against England in the second T20I.
Shadab Khan, who has been going through a rough patch, conceded 55 runs in his four overs without taking a wicket. These are the worst bowling figures by him in T20I cricket.
Afridi, speaking to a local news channel, shared that he had a detailed conversation with Shadab following the match. He aimed to boost Shadab’s confidence and pinpointed areas for improvement in his bowling.
“I need Shadab to deliver with the ball. Whenever he performs with the ball, Pakistan wins. I’ve watched all his matches. We had a detailed chat yesterday. I asked him about who is coaching him and pointed out his mistakes,” Afridi said.
Afridi’s call came at a crucial time, knowing Shadab is struggling. He emphasized the importance of guidance and motivation for players facing tough times.
“I called because I know he’s going through a difficult time. I talked with Shadab about his mistakes and hope he will apply [what we discussed] in training sessions,” Afridi added.
When asked about a possible mental block for Shadab, Afridi highlighted the lack of a specialized leg-spin coach in the team.
“Is there any leg-spin coach with the team? Ajmal should be asked if he guided Shadab and why he’s not following the advice,” he added.
“There must be tremendous pressure on Shadab, but great players know how to pull through. I shared one or two issues I found with his bowling, and I hope he’ll work on those,” Afridi concluded.
Afridi’s support and guidance could be crucial for Shadab as he seeks to regain his form and confidence. The cricketing world will be watching closely to see if Shadab can bounce back and deliver for Pakistan.
