Quetta Gladiators’ head coach Shane Watson showered praise on all-rounder Mohammad Wasim Jr for his remarkable performance that propelled the team into the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 playoffs.
After a tense match, Wasim Jr’s explosive batting prowess came to the forefront as he smashed a crucial six off the final ball bowled by Lahore Qalandars’ captain Shaheen Afridi, securing victory for Quetta Gladiators.
Shane Watson commended Wasim Jr’s exceptional hand-eye coordination and raw power, drawing comparisons to West Indies’ Andre Russell, known for his explosive batting and bowling abilities.
“We’ve been talking to Mohammad Wasim Jr since the first game about being as still as possible,” Watson remarked post-match.
“He’s got amazing hand-eye coordination and power, so he just needs to stand still and trust that he can smash it.”
The Quetta Gladiators’ coach expressed his confidence in Wasim Jr’s potential to emulate the skill set of Andre Russell, highlighting the young player’s versatility with both bat and ball.
“We’ve been talking to him about turning himself into the Pakistani Andre Russell with the skill and power he’s got with the bat,” Watson added.
“We already know what he’s got with the ball, and he’s got amazing athleticism which we’ve seen in the field.”
The exhilarating victory propelled Quetta Gladiators into the PSL playoffs, marking their first appearance in the playoffs since clinching the title in 2019.
With their spot secured, Quetta Gladiators now join Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Islamabad United in the final four teams of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the upcoming Qualifier and Eliminator ties will determine the ultimate contenders for the PSL season 9 championship.
