The final resting place of a loved one is a sacred and cherished site for many people. Unfortunately, bad things can happen to graves that can cause distress and pain for those left behind. Vandals or thieves who may deface or desecrate the area.
Many such cases are heard where people dig up graves and do unspeakable things to dead bodies or to what remains of them. These events can have a significant emotional impact on individuals and families. However, to protect their resting loved ones from such incidents, people have now started to put locks on the graves.
This picture above is of a locked grave that was “supposedly discovered” in Pakistan. This and many more similar allegations were headlining multiple Indian news and media channels. The rivalry between India and Pakistan has always been there no matter what the issue but apparently, that day, Indian news channels had nothing better to talk about than this news. They tried to sell it as best as they could but things soon took an embarrassing turn for them. All we can say is that “One shouldn’t be too quick to judge.”
The media was accusing Pakistan and its citizens of all nasty, eerie, and horrible things. Turns out they were eventually accusing themselves of all that. Funnily, one of their own journalists soon took to Twitter and cleared the misconception. The locked grave was in fact located in one of the graveyards in Darab Jung Colony, Madannapet, Hyderabad, Telangana, in India.
Indian journalist, fact-Checker, and co-founder Muhammad Zubair at AltNews analyses misinfo/disinfo across India. Zubair was the one who discredited all fake news by bringing out the truth on Twitter. Here have a look at his tweets to understand the full story.Â

Media outlets including ANI shared the photo of a padlocked grave with the claim that parents in Pakistan were locking daughters' graves to avoid rape. The photo is from Hyderabad, India and the grave is reportedly of an aged woman.https://t.co/Vp5TlTf6UJ

Alt News also spoke to a local resident whose house is near the mosque. He informed us that the grave belonged to an aged woman who had passed away in her seventies. Her son constructed the grille over the grave about 40 days after she had been buried.

After putting all the facts straight, he also shamed all of the Indian media for blindly posting, circulating, and selling such sensitive news without doing any background checks. He also criticized them for deliberately adding fuel to the fire with disgusting allegations just because the picture was “supposedly” from Pakistan.
I spoke to one of the guy who shared the image. Here's what he had to say.
Trying to find who clicked the image or shared it first, will update the thread when I have more info. Why are Indian News Agencies & Outlets sharing unverified claims just because it's viral on twitter. pic.twitter.com/tjC7xH381q— Mohammed Zubair (@zoo_bear) April 30, 2023
With keyword search in Urdu, I found a few more Facebook posts from Tuesday 25th April. None of them had mentioned about the rape. The narrative of 'rape' started much later. pic.twitter.com/c4cjl8IcYU

Did News Agencies & News Channels try to find if this 'News' was reported by local channels, Any authentic source? Where exactly is the incident from, Did they speak to the parents? No.
Their articles was based on a tweet by Harris Sultan who had tweeted on Wednesday, April 26th pic.twitter.com/LoCeTUP6Q7— Mohammed Zubair (@zoo_bear) April 30, 2023
