In the initial seven months of 2023, a staggering number of over 450,000 Pakistanis embarked on a journey beyond their homeland, seeking greener pastures and improved job prospects overseas.
As per the insights gleaned from the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment, the data highlights that a remarkable count of 450,110 Pakistani individuals registered themselves for potential overseas employment during the first seven months of the current calendar year, concluding in July.
A detailed breakdown of the statistics brings to light that within this timeframe, 192,188 of these departing individuals were categorized as laborers, while an additional 96,466 identified as drivers. Furthermore, this cohort of ambitious emigrants encompassed 4,705 engineers, 4,431 accountants, 1,925 doctors, and 764 teachers.
Divulging into the occupational demographics, the bureau’s report illustrates that out of this outpouring, 12,787 individuals were equipped with high qualifications, while an impressive 26,405 exhibited commendable high-skilled expertise.
When it comes to destinations, the report underscores that a substantial 205,515 workers migrated to Saudi Arabia, followed by 121,745 to the United Arab Emirates, 35,637 to Qatar, and 34,140 who ventured to Oman for fresh opportunities. Notable presence can also be seen in other nations like Malaysia (16,166), Bahrain (7,441), Greece (2,565), Romania (3,275), and Iraq (2,119).
It’s worth noting that the data compiled by the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment pertains exclusively to individuals who have formally registered with the Bureau. Hence, those who embark on journeys for educational pursuits or those who opt for alternative paths such as direct immigration remain unaccounted for in this record.
To provide context, the previous year witnessed a staggering count of 832,339 Pakistani nationals venturing abroad for employment prospects, marking the highest figure since the year 2016.
