SSGC Announces Gas Load-Shedding Schedule for Ramadan

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced the gas load-shedding schedule for Ramadan.

Gas supply will be suspended from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. throughout the month. However, SSGC assured that gas will be available during Sehr and Iftar times to make things easier for people fasting.

SSGC highlighted that Pakistanโ€™s natural gas reserves are depleting by 8 to 10 percent every year. If this continues, the reserves could shrink by half by 2027, causing even worse shortages. The company highlighted the need to find new energy sources to meet the countryโ€™s growing needs.

To address the crisis, SSGC is actively exploring solutions. They are working on biogas production, nitrogen extraction and generating gas from coal. These projects aim to reduce the impact of declining reserves and secure a more stable energy future for Pakistan.

SSGC also urged consumers to use gas responsibly during Ramadan to help balance supply and demand. They encouraged households to avoid unnecessary usage and adopt energy-saving practices, especially during peak hours.

Meanwhile, Pakistanโ€™s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SPARCO) shared an update on the Ramadan 2025 moon sighting. The new moon is expected on February 28, 2025, at 5:45 p.m. However, spotting the crescent that day will be difficult due to its low altitude and distance from the sun.

SPARCO estimates that Ramadan will likely begin in Pakistan on March 2, 2025. In Saudi Arabia, the crescent might be visible on February 28, indicating Ramadan could start there on March 1st 2025.
