Parenting with Confidence and Purpose
When Zara Noor Abbas asked Sunita about her early return to work after becoming a mother, Marshall responded thoughtfully. She acknowledged feeling slight guilt initially but emphasized the importance of training children to adapt. “If you start working early, your baby will get used to it. But if you wait until they recognise your absence, it becomes challenging for both,” she shared.
Sunita confessed that she used to leave in silence so that she did not disturb her children, a trick that eventually helped them get accustomed to it. She advises parents to spend quality time nursing and bonding initially but also to help children get used to their parents’ schedules.
Challenging Societal Norms
This led to the discussion on societal pressures. Zara shared the popular view that when a mother is away, the children become naughty. Marshall totally denied it by explaining that the parents are equal when it comes to raising the child. “It is easy to blame mothers, but fathers equally take care of kids,” she explained.
