The cricket world is buzzing after India suffered an unexpected ODI series loss to Sri Lanka, their first defeat in such a series against the island nation in 27 years. As expected, reactions have poured in from fans and former players alike.
Among the voices is former Pakistan pacer Tanveer Ahmed, known for his outspoken and often controversial remarks, especially when it comes to India.

Following India’s 2-0 series loss, Tanveer took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his thoughts. His target? Gautam Gambhir, India’s newly appointed white-ball coach. Gambhir, who recently led India to a T20I series victory.
Tanveer’s post read, “Gift for India team losing the ODI series – Gautam Gambhir.” He followed this up with another jab: “Next time india walon ko bolain gay achi team ley kar Ana,” which roughly translates to, “Next time, tell the Indians to bring a better team.”
Sri Lanka’s historic triumph was sealed with a commanding 110-run victory at the R Premadasa Stadium. The series ended with a 2-0 scoreline in favor of Sri Lanka. The first game ended in a tie, while the second saw Sri Lanka edge out India by 32 runs, thanks to a stellar performance by spinner Jeffrey Vandersay.

In the final match, Sri Lanka set a target of 249 runs. India’s response was lackluster, collapsing to just 138 runs in 26.1 overs. Sri Lankan spinner Dinuth Wellalage played a crucial role, claiming a brilliant five-wicket haul and dismantling the Indian batting lineup.
This series defeat has not only highlighted the vulnerabilities in India’s batting but has also marked a significant achievement for Sri Lanka. Their last ODI series win against India was in August 1997, making this victory a historic moment.
