In the lead-up to the much-anticipated ICC World Cup 2023 opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, all ten captains assembled for the ICC Captains’ Day event stirring up quite a buzz.
All the participating captains including Babar Azam from Pakistan, India’s Rohit Sharma, England’s Jos Buttler, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, and Australia’s Pat Cummins were all in attendance.
However, it was South Africa’s skipper, Temba Bavuma, who unwittingly grabbed the spotlight, and not for a statement he gave during the ICC Captains’ Day.
As the captains convened, a candid picture of Temba Bavuma in a seemingly sleeping state circulated like wildfire across social media platforms, sparking a frenzy of humorous remarks and memes.
However, Bavuma swiftly addressed the situation through his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account in response to a post, asserting that appearances can be deceiving.
I blame the camera angle, I wasn’t sleeping 🤦🏽♂️

While Bavuma’s clarification attempted to debunk the ‘sleeping’ narrative, fans on social media continued to amuse themselves with a slew of memes featuring Bavuma.
