There is a lot of growing concern in the masses with a rising number of Corona cases in the country. We have all been advised to practice social distancing and wash our hands frequently for at least 20 seconds to protect ourselves and those around us. However, this is also the time to be actively helping those who are less fortunate!

Approximately 25% of our population lives under the poverty line. With a sizeable chunk of the working population comprising of ‘daily wage’ or ‘shadow workers’, who will soon be struggling to put a meal on their tables with economic activities slowing down. This is the time to ensure that we help these less fortunate members of our community by providing them with food and necessary supplies.

A lot of initiatives have come forward in the last few days for this and we have been pleased to see that Swvl, the leading bus-hailing company in Pakistan, has partnered with multiple social impact businesses and NGOs nationwide to give back to the community. Swvl will lead the distribution of ration packages for Saylani Welfare Trust, Robinhood Army, and Rizq.

If you do not know about these organizations here is some background information. Seylani Welfare Trust has recently pledged to provide over a million ration packs to those in need. The Robinhood Army is a zero-funds organization that works to get surplus food from restaurants and homes to distribute to the less privileged. Inspired by a mother, taken forward by her 3 sons Rizq is on a mission to end hunger.

By partnering up with these platforms, Swvl will be able to contribute to the cause by utilizing its extensive route network and bus platform while providing key logistical insights and support to help millions of Pakistanis whether the economic downtime caused by the pandemic.

In other news, Swvl has also set up a comprehensive captain relief package which entails monetary compensation and monthly ration packs.
