Trump Suspends All US Military Aid to Ukraine

The Trump administration has suspended all US military aid to Ukraine, blocking billions in shipments, including ammunition, vehicles and other equipment, a White House official confirmed. The pause affects previously approved aid and comes as the administration pressures Ukraine to negotiate peace with Vladimir Putin. Trump told Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he was โ€œgambling withโ€ a third world war and should return โ€œwhen he is ready for peace.โ€

A senior official told Fox News that the suspension โ€œis not permanent termination of aid, itโ€™s a pause.โ€ Bloomberg reported that all military equipment not yet in Ukraine would be held back, including weapons in transit. Trump directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to execute the order after a meeting with key officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

Since Russiaโ€™s invasion nearly three years ago, the US has approved $175 billion in aid for Ukraine. Assistance includes military support, budgetary aid, and USAID funds. $31.7 billion in weapons aid has been pledged through presidential drawdown authority (PDA), with most already shipped. However, Trump has not approved any new aid since taking office, and a new congressional package appears unlikely shortly.

Meanwhile, the White House is considering lifting sanctions on Russia as part of a broader effort to restore diplomatic and economic ties. The administration has instructed the State and Treasury Departments to draft a list of sanctions that could be eased. Trump also criticised Zelenskyy for suggesting the warโ€™s end could be โ€œvery, very far away,โ€ warning that unless Ukraine accepts peace on US terms, its leadership โ€œwonโ€™t be around very long.โ€
