A revised visa policy has been announced by the United States embassy in Pakistan with revisions in certain categories, including the validity of visas and fees.
As per the notice issued by the US embassy, an additional fee is being charged for:
- H (Temporary Work Visa)
- I (Journalist and Media Visa)
- L (Intercompany Transfer Visa)
- R (Religious Worker Visa) visas
Once the visa application is approved, the additional fee would be charged in the mentioned categories and must be paid at the Embassy of Islamabad or Consulate General in Karachi prior to the visa issuance.
The visa charges for:
- I category are $32
- for H, L and R categories the charges are $38
The validity period of the visas has also been reduced.
The new validity periods will be:
- I visas 3 months
- H visas: 12 months
- L visas: 12 months
- R visas: 12 months
The Department of State noted discrepancies between the US visa regime and the visa regimes of many countries, including Pakistan in a recent worldwide review.
According to the law of the States, the US was required to reduce the visa validity and increase the visa fees to match Pakistani’s practices for similar visa categories.
