Virat Kohli silenced his critics with a scintillating performance during the ongoing IPL 2024 and took a subtle jab at them during the post-match interview.
In a thrilling encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings, Virat Kohli showcased his mastery with the bat, leading RCB to a sensational victory.
RCB secured a nail-biting win in Bengaluru, with Dinesh Karthik’s explosive cameo ensuring victory in the final over.
Despite losing early wickets, Kohli held the innings together with a magnificent knock of 77 runs off just 49 balls. His innings, comprising 13 boundaries including two sixes, marked his 51st IPL half-century, which earned him a man of the match award.
Following the match, Kohli addressed his critics in a post-match interview, expressing his determination to prove himself in the T20 format.
“I know my name is quite attached to promoting the game in many parts of the world when it comes to T20 cricket, but I have still got it I guess,” Kohli remarked.
Kohli’s comments come amidst speculation about his place in India’s T20I side, particularly with the T20 World Cup 2024 on the horizon.
Despite limited appearances for India in T20Is since November 2022, Kohli’s outstanding form in the IPL has reignited the debate about his selection.
Notably, former cricketer Kevin Pietersen emphasized Kohli’s global appeal, suggesting that his inclusion in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad could benefit the game’s growth worldwide, irrespective of his individual performances.
“You want someone like Virat Kohli to grow the game in America and globally,” said Pietersen while commentating in IPL 2024.
With the T20 World Cup approaching, all eyes will be on Kohli as he strives to make a significant impact on the global stage once again.
