Believe it or not, Pakistan is becoming a water-scarced country, which means it needs to do everything possible to preserve water and reduce its usage.
In order to promote this act, students of Information Technology University (ITU) have collaborated with the University of Colorado to bring their Water ATMs initiative to life.
What Are Water ATMS?
Water ATMS can be a good solution to ensure clean drinking water at a nominal cost.
It is a card-operated water vending machine with inbuilt RD water purifier and chilled. It is mostly powered by solar, wind and AC/grid and uses the supply of raw water.
Locations
According to a source, these ATMs will be installed across Punjab, especially in areas where there is a minimum to no access to clean water. The ATM will work like any regular one, however, instead of cash, residents will have access to clean water.
The residents of these areas will be given a card and water quota for every month to get access to the water to make this possible. The machine has been designed keeping the in mind that majority of the population comes under illiteracy.
Cost
The project is expected to cost around $374,500. What are your thoughts on it?
