In the world of cricket, criticism often accompanies the highs and lows of players’ careers, and hard-hitting batter Azam Khan is no stranger to the scrutiny.
As he prepares to make his comeback in the T20I series against Ireland, Azam has fired back at his detractors, asserting that success in international cricket requires time and opportunity.
Addressing the media in Lahore, the 25-year-old expressed his determination to silence his critics and make a meaningful contribution to the national team.
Azam rejected the notion of instant success, emphasizing that players are not machines but individuals who require time to find their rhythm and showcase their talents on the international stage.
“We are not robots that you press a button and we start performing. We all want to perform for the Pakistan team because that’s how you build your name. If given an opportunity, I will try to give my best,” Azam asserted defiantly.
Despite facing criticism over his form and fitness, Azam remains undeterred and ready to embrace any challenge thrown his way.
Confident in his abilities, he asserted his flexibility to bat at any position in the batting order, ready to adapt to the team’s needs and contribute effectively.
“There is no pressure of power-hitting. A batter needs to see the situation and take responsibility. I try to take advantage of the opportunity. I am ready to bat at any position, in any number the management sends me,” Azam affirmed, showcasing his adaptability and versatility as a player.
While Azam’s T20I record may not be stellar, with only 29 runs in eight matches, his potential as a game-changer has not gone unnoticed.
Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam acknowledged the unique talent and game-changing abilities of Azam Khan after the New Zealand series, expressing confidence in his capacity to turn matches around with his explosive batting style.
“We missed Azam a little because he is a different type of player. He is a game-changer. You know that when he is standing, he can completely change the game,” Babar Azam remarked in the post-match presser after the fifth T20I.
For the unversed, he was ruled out of the New Zealand T20I series due to a tear in his calf muscle.
