WhatsApp Pay is one of the most anticipated features of the popular global application WhatsApp.
The feature is expected to work like an e-wallet so that users can make smooth cash-less transactions and is expected to be launched in 2019 starting from India.
According to Facebook’s Subsdiary’s Global Head Will Cathcart, the company has been testing the feature in the country (India) since 2018.
Cathcart reportedly said:
We believe that if we get this right, it will accelerate financial inclusion and bring value for people in India’s fast-growing digital economy. We can’t wait to provide the service [to] more of our users all across India later this year.
Out of the 1.5bn users database, about 400mn users are based in India, making it the ideal location to test and launch the feature.
Previously, Facebook had announced its new cryptocurrency called ‘Libra’. The aim of this currency is to purchase products, send money to recipients around the globe, give donations, etc. There a fair chance WhatsApp Pay will be once of the channels that will allow Libra transactions.
This is a developing story.
