From the moment Sabrina Carpenter made her entrance at the 2025 Grammy Awards in a daring look, she was already stirring conversation. Though she was silenced twice during the live show, her powerful performance and acceptance speech caught the attention of the audience, albeit in a different way than she might have hoped.
A Censored Performance
Carpenter, who was nominated for six Grammy Awards, performed a medley of her hit songs “Espresso“ and “Please Please Please.” However, during the performance, the explicit word in her lyrics was muted. Carpenter stayed true to the original line in “Please Please Please” by singing: โI beg you, donโt embarrass me, motherfโker.โ The curse word was censored during the live show.

Acceptance Speech Cut Short
Later that night, Carpenter’s “Short & Sweet“ won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. However, her acceptance speech was also censored. While she thanked the Recording Academy, her team and the other nominees, part of her speech was muted. Earlier, Carpenter had somehow apologised for having said “hell” a few times in her speech, adding, “I don’t know if I’m allowed to say hell, but I said it three times now, so thank you.”
Six Nominations and Big Wins
Among the six Grammy nominations Carpenter received were Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year for “Espresso.” She was also nominated for Song of the Year (“Please Please Please”), Album of the Yearย and Best New Artist. Nonetheless, despite the censored parts, Carpenter’s presence was felt by all the artists present.
The 2025 Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah at the Crypto.com Arena, were full of excitement and unforgettable moments. Carpenterโs debut performance, though censored, left a lasting impression, reminding everyone that she is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
